Viktor and Rolf SS13

Viktor and Rolf Men S/S 13

Viktor & Rolf have never been ones to get caught up in a complicated backstory, and it was the same for their Spring 2013 collection, which found inspiration, fleetingly, in a colonial idea of India. But rather than sending out dhotis or Nehru jackets, the duo instead limited the references to the light color palette and the straw caps several of the models wore. There was also, one suspected, a nod toward the subcontinent in the shimmeringly decorative nature of the clothes, with everything from ties to sneakers taking on a metallic sheen, and a number of pieces covered in raffia embroidery or gleaming bits of mirror. But beyond these showpieces, there were sharp suits and solid sportswear, worn by a bevy of runway favorites from yesterday—Noah Mills, Ryan Taylor, Adam Senn, Jeremy Dufour—and today—Alexander Beck, Arthur Gosse, Hao Yunxiang, Jesse Shannon. The collection was a celebration of detailing and craftsmanship, both eye-catching and thought-through at the same time.
